What
is Topwrite?
TopWrite was an initiative set up by the Writers' Summer School
to encourage young people to attend and participate in the 6-day
event held annually in August.
Who
is it for?
It was for anyone between the ages of 18-30 with an interest in
writing, who was engaged in education, on a full or part-time basis.
What
was on offer?
In 2006, 10 sponsored places were offered and fully subscribed.
The sponsorship was for £245 towards the full fee of £295.
A similar number of all-in places were available for 2007 and once
more the recipient contributed just £50 for their place.
Please note: Topwrite funding has
ended and the scheme is no longer available.

Background:
In 2005, then committee member Ann Palmer obtained a 5k grant from 'Awards
for All' to launch the TOPWRITE project.
Envisioned by Ann and her partner, Peter Lyons, as a way to introduce
young writers to Swanwick and help close the gaps between the commercial,
literary and academic writing worlds, the TOPWRITE project enabled seventeen
young people to come to Swanwick for just £50 for the week.
The 2005 TOPWRITE project was voted so successful by the Swanwick membership
it was decided to continue it for another two years using the School's
own funds. Ten young writers benefited from the TOPWRITE scheme in 2006,
and seven in 2007.

For
2007,
a private donation was received which enabled the School to make a price
concession for returning Topwriters.
The
first three returning Topwriters who sent a completed application
form, along with a cheque for their choice of accomodation, less £50,
got a place on that basis.
